Fashion Statements & Identity
By Giovanna Lino
Fashion identity is what establishes high end fashion pieces as luxurious and exclusive. Therefore, the identity of a brand is key to its success. Cultural elements that make stamps and patterns tell a lot about the designer's influences, and what the brand is trying to communicate. The traditions and sense of status that comes with each design emcompasses all of a brand's history. When new designers are hired, they are aware of the brand's identity, and it is their job to combine that knowledge with their vision, and create innovative designs with the brand's logo.
Some examples of recognizable high end brand identities are the F in all of Fendi's clothes and accessories, the gold pattern and sense of extravagance of Versace, and the LV of Louis Vuitton. These famous brand identities can be used to make fashion statements as well. But, what is a statement?
A statement is a piece of clothing, shoe, or accessory that causes the most attention when someone looks at your outfit. It could be something about the fabric, color, pattern, or the combination of different pieces. What matters is the way you combine the pieces to create a statement, while keeping each brand's identity in place.
Here are some tips on how to create a fashion statement:
Start by defining your color palette. There are multiple apps, such as My Colors, haute, and Ask Hue, that can help you navigate the world of colors and see which ones fit best with your skin tone.
Choose fashion pieces with colors from the palette that complement each other.
Not a fan of colors? Pick one different element to cause impact. This can be accessories such as a maximized necklace or earring, a metallized boot, a spiked belt, a leather glove, etc. Be creative!
For all our pattern lovers, choose one or two patterns that work together. However, do not choose two from very well known brands as it can look a little excessive in the overall look.
Leather is never too much!
Using high end brands' logos needs to be met with caution.
The key is to ask yourself what you want to communicate. But, no matter what statement you try to create, do not forget to showcase your personality while maintaining brand identity.
